St. Charles Bike Trails
St. Charles loves cyclists. A slew of terrific trails run through this city, connecting Saint Charles Charles with St. Louis County, and on into Historic Missouri Wine Country. Ranging from short and easy trails in our smaller parks to longer state trails, such as the world-renowned Katy Trail (the longest rail to trail project in the country), we have something exciting for every cyclist, at any level of experience.
Did you know, the largest pump track in the WORLD is located in St. Charles County? Kinetic Park is home to this amazing, 30,000 square-foot track. Complete with beginner, intermediate, and advanced sections to accommodate riders of all abilities, anyone with wheels—bikes, skates, scooters, skateboards—can experience the circuit of paved rollers, banked turns, and other features designed for riders to “pump” (generate momentum by using up and down body movements) instead of pedaling or pushing. Open year-round, the track has nighttime lighting and provides challenges necessary for local and national bike competitions. Spectators are always welcome!
Mountain Bikers can check out Bangert Island Park, located in the heart of the City of St. Charles, just a short distance from The Katy Trail and the Streets of St. Charles. This 160-acre park contains 4-miles of natural surface trail for hiking and mountain biking, with good pumps and flow, as well as a few optional obstacles.
In addition to trails, our area has plenty of cycling resources. In Frenchtown, Take a Hike Shop carries gear for biking, hiking, snow gear, and more, as well as a bike repair shop. On Main Street, St. Charles, Bike Stop Café, and Bike Stop Outpost are hubs for road cycling, mountain biking, and casual riding. Situated within eyesight of the Katy Trail, Bike Stop offers a variety of rentals, carries all kinds of bikes and cycling gear, shuttles cyclists, and contains a full-service bike-repair shop… all in addition to the delicious offerings of their 7 day-a-week cafe. Out in Historic Missouri Wine Country, Katy Trail Bike Rental in Defiance and Kickstand in Augusta are fantastic resources for bike rentals, sales, and shuttle service along the Katy Trail.
